1. A relative/friend has offered to record our wedding, do we really need a professional videographer?
Yes. But of course we would say that! Any footage recorded by an amateur will look exactly that, amateur. In years to come you'll be glad you spent the extra money on a professional wedding video. Otherwise you may risk the possiblility of being stuck with a teribble wedding video that you're ashamed to show anyone. You should choose a professional videographer for the same reason you would choose a professional photographer, dress-maker or band etc... Compare the results of one of our wedding videos with that of an amateur and you will see for yourself.

Modern cameras are very good in low light conditions and whenever possible we try to avoid using lights, however any videographer worth his salt will carry a small on board camera light incase lighting conditions are so low that filming good quality images would be impossible. Lighting is never used in the church, it is only later in the evening during the reception that a small light may be required. A sit-down meal with the guests is not required and normally the videographer will eat a bar or restaurant adjacent to the main function room so he can keep an eye on whats happening, e.g. cutting the cake, start of the speeches. It would be very much appreciated if you could let the hotel know that there will be a videographer present. Most venues are well accustomed to providing a meal to the videographer.
